Nihonden Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu is the legitimate continuation of the Nihonden Aikijujutsu developed by Tsuruyama Kozui, who followed Saigo Tanomo, Takeda Sokaku and Hisa Takuma in succession to the Daito Ryu menkyo kaiden. This style consists of three technical levels: aiki no jutsu, aikijujutsu and jujutsu. The title Nihonden Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu was formed by Sugasawa Kogen Sensei after inheriting the doctrines and techniques of Tsuruyama Kozui. He is now chief instructor of the Shiki dojo.
For further information, please view the three-part DVD series Aiki no Kaitei (The Levels of Aiki) or the series of books San Dai Giho ni Manabu: Nihonden Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu (Learning from the Techniques of Nihonden Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu), both published by BAB Japan..
The current class originated as a course at the Tokyo Shimbun’s Sunshine City Culture Center in Ikebukuro. Following the closure of the Ikebukuro Culture Center, it moved to the Yomiuri Shimbun/Nihon Television Culture Center in Shinjuku. Later, the dojo was moved to the quiet town of Shiki, where it has remained to this day.
